In a bold political move to revive the African National Congress (ANC)'s fading support, NEC member **Senzo Mchunu** officially launched **Operation Asiye Ekhaya** in Mtshezi, KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, on Sunday.


The campaign, whose name means *“Let’s Come Home”* in isiZulu, is the party’s latest effort to **reconnect with former members who left the ANC for rival political movements** such as the **EFF**, **MK Party**, and others. This initiative comes after the ANC suffered a devastating blow in the **2024 general elections**, securing only **17%** of the vote in KZN — a province once considered its stronghold.


> “The ANC has lost millions of members to splinter parties like the EFF and most recently the MK Party led by former president Jacob Zuma,” Mchunu said.


The event in Mtshezi welcomed approximately **200 defectors** from various parties, including the **MK Party** and **National Freedom Party (NFP)** — signaling the ANC’s renewed intent to **rebuild grassroots support**.

### ANC Eyes Revival Beyond Government of National Unity


Mchunu emphasized that participating in the **Government of National Unity (GNU)** should not be seen as the ultimate goal. Instead, he encouraged supporters to **see the ANC’s leadership role beyond coalition governance**.


> “Circumstances forced us to form a GNU... but the ANC can still lead outside it,” he asserted.

Addressing the crowd, Mchunu also outlined the party’s **key priority: growing the economy to tackle unemployment** and poverty.


> “We want to create jobs so people can take care of their families. The ANC is the only organisation with a comprehensive economic plan,” he said.


This comes at a time when the party faces mounting pressure to **deliver tangible results** amid competition from increasingly popular opposition parties.

Choosing **Mtshezi**, the birthplace of ANC former president **Josiah Gumede**, for the campaign’s launch was symbolic — a **return to roots** both historically and politically.
