**10 Days Missing: Free State Education MEC Urges Public to Help Find Kamogelo Baukudi** *by Shonisani Tshikalange | 15 June 2025 – 13:00*
**Bloemfontein, South Africa** — It’s been ten painful days since 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi, a Grade 11 learner at Martie du Plessis Special School, was allegedly abducted by two men pretending to be police officers. As the search continues, Free State Education MEC Mantlhake Maboya has made a heartfelt plea to the public: *“Help us bring this boy back home.”*
Kamogelo was last seen on **June 5**, when he was reportedly picked up from school by a man identified as Daniel Malebatso. According to police spokesperson Lt-Col Thabo Covane, the two were traveling in a Suzuki Ertiga along Vereeniging Drive in Ehrlich Park when a white Toyota Hilux GD-6, flashing blue lights and allegedly fitted with a police radio, pulled them over.
Inside the Hilux were two men—one dressed in a police uniform, the other in a blue tracksuit. Claiming the vehicle was suspected of transporting drugs, the men separated Kamogelo from Malebatso and instructed them to head to Park Road police station in convoy. However, only Malebatso made it.
He told police that a truck intervened between their vehicles, and he lost sight of the Hilux. Both cellphones—his and Kamogelo’s—were later discovered discarded under a bridge on Ferreira Road. One suspect reportedly spoke fluent Sesotho and mentioned the name “Thipe.”

### MEC, Police, and Community Join Forces
MEC Maboya is working closely with law enforcement and community leaders to track down the teenager, who has now been missing for over a week. “We urge every South African, especially those in the Free State, to come forward if they have any information. A child is missing. A family is shattered,” Maboya emphasized during a press briefing.
The Free State Department of Education has also called on parents and schools to remain vigilant, especially in cases involving individuals claiming to be law enforcement.

### Breakthrough in Case: Police Officer Arrested
In a shocking development, a **42-year-old police sergeant** was arrested in connection with the kidnapping. He briefly appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court last week and remains behind bars. The case has been postponed to **June 24** to allow for an identity parade.
Tragically, the court cannot proceed with this key step until Kamogelo is found.

### Call to Action
As the days stretch on, the urgency grows. Police have launched a **manhunt**, and the Bloemfontein task team is treating the case with the highest priority. Members of the public are encouraged to report any leads or suspicious sightings to local authorities immediately.
